Presence of Mind

July 20, 2010

Marilynne Robinson, writer of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel Gilead (which tells the story of three generations of American fathers and sons in the voice of a Congregationalist minister) has written a new non-fiction book, Absence of Mind.

According to the book’s publisher, Robinson “challenges postmodern atheists who crusade against religion under the banner of science,” and argues that “science represents a search for answers, …[engaging] the problem of knowledge, an aspect of the mystery of consciousness, rather than providing a simple and final model of reality.” Last week, she was interviewed by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.
